Pack fall to No. 16 Orediggers

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. (Feb. 1, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 90-67 to No. 16 Colorado School of Mines Friday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest at Massari Arena. 

The Orediggers (17-3, 14-0 RMAC) have won 16 straight, while the ThunderWolves (5-15, 3-11 RMAC) have suffered six straight losses. Mines shot 53 percent from the field, while holding the Pack to 38 percent. CSU-Pueblo knocked down 14 3-pointers and went 14-for-32 (44%) from long range. CSU-Pueblo was just 3-for-11 (27%) from the line, while the Orediggers went 16-for-18 for an 89 percent effort. 

Mines won the rebounding battle 46-27, which included nine offensive rebounds for 14 second chance points. The Pack pulled down seven offensive boards, but couldn't capitalize for any points. The road team also won the paint 46-18.

Jordan Phillips (R-So., G/F, Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned a start and led the team with 15 points on a 5-for-7 (71.4%) effort from long range. He added two rebounds while playing in just 17 minutes. 

Freshman guard Tyson Gilbert (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) totaled 11 points on a 5-for-6 (83.3%) performance from the field. He also tied for the team lead with three assists and added two rebounds. 

Sophomore Corey Seng (G/F, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 10 points and three rebounds, while guard BJ Hardy (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) came off the bench and totaled 10 points with two assists. 

The Pack never led in the contest, but were only down two at 12-10 with 15:52 remaining in the opening half. Mines then posted a 7-1 run to open an eight-point lead at 19-11, but a Hardy 3-pointer cut it to five with 13:13 showing on the game clock. Unfortunately for the home team, the Orediggers would rattle off another run, this time a 13-6 stretch that pushed the lead to 15 at 32-17 with 9:44 left. 

The Pack would only be able to get within 12 before trailing by 20, 52-32, at the break. CSU-Pueblo would get as close as 17 before losing by 23. 

The ThunderWolves host University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
