ABERDEEN, S.D. (Nov. 22, 2019) – In the first road test of the season, the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team lost 95-73 at Northern State University.
The Wolves (3-2) knocked down 13 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field to defeat the ThunderWolves (2-1) in the nonconference contest. CSU-Pueblo shot 44.8 from the field, but only 33.3 percent from long range.
The Pack won the paint, 44-42, which was one of their goals, but allowed the home team to score 19 points off turnovers and 12 second chance points.
CSU-Pueblo was led by junior
Bryce Sanchious (F, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who totaled 20 points and added six rebounds. He had four of the team's eight 3-pointers. Senior
Brandon McGhee (G, Oakland, Calif.) dropped 19 points and added five rebounds with three assists. He was 8-for-11 (72.7%) from the field.
Senior
Donovan Oldham (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was one shy of a double-double, as he produced 11 points and nine rebounds, all on the defensive end. Oldham knocked down three from beyond the arc.
The ThunderWolves hit the first shot of the game, a 3-pointer from Oldham, and led 3-2, two minutes into the contest. Unfortunately, NSU went on a 13-3 run during the next three minutes of play to take a double-digit lead at 15-5.
With 11:47 left in the first half, a McGhee layup got the Pack within two possessions at 17-11. The six-point deficit would be as close as CSU-Pueblo would get, as the home team rattled off a 15-8 run and opened up a 13-point advantage at 32-19 with 6:25 remaining.
The Wolves finished the half winning 19-12 and held a 20-point lead, 51-31, at the break.
Northern State didn't let off the gas pedal in the second half and finished with the 22-point win, 95-73.
