KEARNEY, Neb. (November 2, 2019) – Competing on the road for the first time this season, Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving seized second place at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Open Saturday.
The Pack scored 983 points less than 200 off of the winner, Western Colorado University. CSU-Pueblo beat Barton Community College by 390 points and toppled the host Lopers by 400 points exactly.
Selina Wang (Fr., Taipei, Taiwan),
Vivica Craig (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.),
Julia Whitfield (So., Wichita, Kan.), and
Phoebe Pontious (Sr., Caledonia, Mich.) swam the fifth fastest 200 Free Relay time in program history. This quartet won the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:40.66.
Wang led the Pack to a 1-2-4 finish in the 50 Free. The freshman posted a time of 25.07. Pontious finished second with a time of 25.17. Whitfield ended up fourth (25.84).
The Pack had a 2-3-4 finish in the 200 Free. Wang placed second with a time of 2:01.34. Whitfield touched the wall just .38 seconds behind Wang to take third.
McKenna Hauber (Fr., Gillette, Wyo.) came in fourth with a time of 2:02.39.
Hauber returned with a second place showing in the 500 Free. The freshman finished the race with a mark of 5:25.45, just four seconds off the winner. She repeated her second place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:02.30.
In the 200 Fly,
Alyssa Grunloh (Fr., Round Rock, Texas) posted a time of 2:26.84. Grunloh's time was good for third place.
Pueblo's own
Sarah Steele (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) started the scoring for the Pack with a second place showing in the one meter dive. Steele posted a score of 203.18.
Holly Humphries (Fr., Cypress, Texas) took third with a score of 183.15, while
Kari Yamada (Jr., Vacaville, Calif.) placed fourth with 159.18 points.
Humphries returned to take second in the three-meter dive with a score of 195.38. Steele placed third with a score of 181.88 in the three meter.
Pontious placed third in the 100 Fly. Her time of 1:03.23 put her two seconds behind the winner.
The Pack capped their day with a win in the 400 Free Relay.
Rashelle Freeman (Fr., Temecula, Calif.) replaced Craig from the Pack's 200 Free relay team as the pack posted a time of 3:43.59. This time stands as the fifth fastest in program history.
CSU-Pueblo will travel to Golden, Colo. Saturday Nov. 9 when they compete against Colorado School of Mines. The Pack will also face Western Colorado for the fourth time this season.
