COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 19, 2019) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving finished second at the Colorado College Classic with 768 points.
The Pack started Sunday with a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of
Arianna Rohde,
Kate Miller (So., Draper, Utah),
Alyssa Grunloh (Fr., Round Rock, Texas), and
Emma Chvatal (Fr., Carterville, Ill.) reached the wall in a time of 2:00.69.
April McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas) continued her strong meet. After winning the 1650 free Friday, McDonough claimed second Sunday in the 500 free (5:37.00).
Three ThunderWolves finished in the top five in the 100 fly.
Natatlie Rotondo (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) took second in the 100 fly (1:01.11). This was her first time finishing outside of first in 2019.
Phoebe Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) trailed Rotondo by just .34 seconds but placed fourth. Rohde (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska) picked up fifth place (1:02.38).
In the 200 breaststroke,
Leila Zijadic (Sr., North Vancouver, B.C.) earned 14 points with a fifth place finish. She reached the wall in time of 2:45.38.
The Pack also had three athletes reach the finals in the 200 back. Rohde recorded third place (2:21.15). J
ade Irick (Sr., Idaho Falls Idaho) took fourth with a mark of 2:23.78.
Julia Whitfield (Fr., Wichita, Kan.) finished seventh (2:27.24).
Bristyn Croswhite (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) completed the 200 IM in a time of 2:27.15. She finished fifth for 14 more points. .
Pontious won the 50 free with a time of 25.29, giving the ThunderWolves their first win of the day. Her time was .12 seconds better than the rest of the field. Whitfield wound up in third with a time of 25.66.
The Pack capped the day with a sixth place finish in the 800 free relay. Croswhite joined
Hannah Plummer (Sr., Arvada, Colo.),
Deanna Harrison (Sr., Orlando, Fla.), and Grunloh posted a time of 9:16.63. The Pack also took second in the 200 free relay (1:45.26).
After a second place showing at the CC Classic, CSU-Pueblo will return home. The Pack will celebrate senior day when the ThunderWolves host Colorado School of Mines Friday Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. in their final dual of the season.
