ThunderWolves defeat Cowboys 37-6 in RMAC dual

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2019) – The No. T-7 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team posted a 37-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory against New Mexico Highlands University Wednesday at Massari Arena. 
 
The Pack improved to 7-1 in dual competition, which includes a 3-0 record against conference foes.  
 
After forfeiting at 133 due to an illness, the ThunderWolves went on to score points in all nine of the remaining bouts. Both Isaiah Diggs (R-Jr., Federal, Wash.) at 157 and Josiah Seaton (R-Sr., Bonner Springs, Kan.) at 125 recorded second period pins at 5:53 and 5:12, respectfully. It was Diggs' first pin of his career as a member of the ThunderWolves, while it was Seaton's second fall of the year. 
 
Preston Lauterbach (R-Sr., Bellevue, Neb.) also claimed bonus points with a 14-4 major decision at 174. 
 
Both sophomores Gavin Melendez (Los Banos, Calif.) and Aaron Benton (Yuba City, Calif.) grabbed their first RMAC wins of the season with significant decision victories. Melendez won 10-3, while Benton was victorious by the score of 10-4. 
 
PT Garcia (R-Sr., 141, Denver, Colo.) and No. 7 Haszell West (R-Jr., 197, Portland, Ore.) each won by an identical 3-1 result, while No. 4 heavyweight Gavin Nye (R-Fr., Gerber, Calif.) won by a 6-2 decision. 
 
Finally, at 149, freshman Oscar Diaz (Selma, Calif.) made his collegiate dual debut, but it only lasted 19 seconds, as his opponent was injured and couldn't't continue. 
 
Next, the ThunderWolves will compete at the Midwest Duals, hosted by University of Nebraska-Kearney, Saturday, Jan. 19. The Pack will have three bouts against three nationally ranked teams at the Midwest Duals. CSU-Pueblo start with No. 6 Lindenwood University at 8 a.m. MT, then battle No. 23 Newman University at 9:30 a.m. MT and finish with No. T-12 Fort Hays State University at 11 a.m. MT.
