PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2019) - The T-No. 7 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team is set to host Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference-foe New Mexico Highlands University in a dual Wednesday, Jan. 16 beginning at 6 p.m. at Massari Arena. The ThunderWolves will also compete at the Midwest Duals, hosted by University of Nebraska-Kearney, Saturday, Jan. 19.
The Pack will have three bouts against three nationally ranked teams at the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Nebraska. The ThunderWolves start with No. 6 Lindenwood University at 8 a.m. MT, then battle No. 23 Newman University at 9:30 a.m. MT and finish with No. T-12 Fort Hays State University at 11 a.m. MT. CSU-Pueblo is 2-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season, which includes a win versus then-No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney.
The Pack own a 6-1 dual record with a 2-0 mark in RMAC competing after defeating Chadron State College 31-3 at home Thursday and then beating San Francisco State University Saturday by the score of 37-12 at the Tracy Borah Duals. CSU-Pueblo also defeated Simon Fraser University 30-9 in Gunnison Saturday.
In Friday's release of the National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, the ThunderWolves moved up from T-11th to a tie for seventh. The same four student-athletes from the previous rankings were still in the top 10, while three moved up a couple spots.
D'Andre Brumfield (R-Jr., Dallas, Texas) was bumped up to No. 2 from No. 4 at 133. He owns a 12-3 overall record with two falls.
Gavin Nye (R-Fr., Gerber, Calif.) remained at No. 4 at heavyweight and leads the team in wins with a 15-5 record. His six pins ties for the team lead with
PT Garcia (R-Sr., 141, Denver, Colo.).
Tarrence Williams (Sr., Portland, Ore.) is 3-0 and moved up two spots to No. 7 at 184 and newcomer
Haszell West (R-Jr., Portland, Ore.) is a perfect 11-0 to start the season and is up No. 7 from No. 10 at 197.
The ThunderWolves are the only ranked member of the RMAC.
New Mexico Highlands is 0-2 overall and in league play with losses to Chadron State College (25-21) and Colorado School of Mines (26-18).
Lindenwood is 7-2 in dual competition an are 2-0 in MIAA duals. The Lions sit in the top 10 thanks to six ranked wrestlers: No. 2 Carlos Jacquez at 125, No. 8 Danny Swan at 133, No. 4 Gavin Londoff at 149, No. 7 Kyle Jolas at 165, No. 9 Colton Clingenpeel at 184 and No. 12 Courvosier Morrow at HWT.
Newman is 2-0 in duals with a 1-0 mark against MIAA competition. The Jets dropped one spot to No. 23 in last week's rankings and have one wrestler ranked in Tyler Mies, who is No. 2 at 157.
Fort Hays State owns a 1-4 overall dual record with an 0-2 mark in MIAA contests. The Tigers moved up from No. 14 to No. T-12 in the coaches' poll and have three wrestlers ranked: No. 2 Brandon Ball at 141, No. 4 Efe Osaghae at 157 and No. 9 Marty Verhaeghe at 174.
