Pueblo, Colo. (January 12, 2019) - Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving dominated its tri-meet against Adams State University and University of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at the Sam Jones Aquatic Center.
The Pack beat the Grizzlies 199-88. They defeated the Lopers by and incredible score of 234-46. The Pack's 188-point margin of victory is their largest in program history.
A ThunderWolf won 14-of the-16 events at the meet. They are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meets, thanks to their two victories Saturday.
Natalie Rotondo (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) collected six wins due to the tri-meet format. Rotondo started her day with a first place finish in the 200 free (2:01.70), almost three second faster than second place.
Rotondo touched the wall in a time of 2:15.09 to take first in the 200 back, besting her closest competition by five seconds. She also won the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.51. With her six wins Saturday, Rotondo now has 15 wins his season.
April McDonough (Sr., Frisco, Texas) earned four victories. McDonough seized first in the 1650 swim. Her time of 19:06.53 was 25 seconds faster than second place. McDonough also won the 500 free (5:34.47). She won her heat in the 200 back (2:26.25).
Jade Irick (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho) picked up four first place finishes. Irick won the one-meter dive with a score of 148.75. She also took first in the 100 back. Her time of 1:03.22 was 1.7 seconds faster than her closest competition. Irick also placed second in the three-meter dive (142.35).
Phoebe Pontious (Jr., Caledonia, Mich.) provided two more wins. Pontious placed first in the 50 free (25.44). Her time of 56.85 led her to first place in the 100 free. Pontious also notched second place in the 100 fly (1:02.64).
Freshman
Alyssa Grunloh (Round Rock, Texas) earned her the first career individual win. Grunloh took first in the 200 fly (2:26.47). She was the runner up in the 500 free (5:38.18).
Bristyn Croswhite (So., Tempe, Ariz.) claimed first place in the 400 IM with a time of 5:13.68. Croswhite placed second in the 200 fly (2:30.30).
Madison Ortega (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) took first in the three meter dive (148.55). She finished second in the one meter dive (131.90).
The ThunderWolves also won both relays. Irick,
Kate Miller (So., Draper, Utah),
Arianna Rohde (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska), and Grunloh posted a time of 1:58.30 just .5 seconds ahead of second place.
In the meet's final event,
Julia Whitfield (Fr., Wichita, Kan.), Rotondo, McDonough, and Pontious claimed first place in the 200 free relay. Their time of 1:42.80 beat their closest competition by eight seconds.
The ThunderWolves have now won three straight meets. They will look to continue their success next week, when they participate in the Colorado College Classic Saturday Jan. 20- Sunday Jan. 21.
