ThunderWolves post 31-3 dual victory in RMAC opener

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 10, 2019) – The No. T-11 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team opened the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual season with a 31-3 rout of Chadron State College. 

The ThunderWolves recorded eight bout wins with seven coming by decision to improve to 4-1 in dual competition. The Eagles dropped to 3-4 in duals and 2-3 in RMAC.
 
CSU-Pueblo started the match ahead 6-0, as CSC forfeited at 125. The Pack then rattled off seven straight decision victories before No. 10 Haszell West (R-Jr., Portland, Ore.) won by a major decision by the score of 11-2. 
 
Chadron State did wrestle the Pack close, as none of the decision wins were by more than three and the most points scored by the ThunderWolves in those bouts was six. 
 
Ranked No. 4 at 133, D'Andre Brumfield (R-Jr., Dallas, Texas) needed the first tiebreaker to win by a 4-3 decision. PT Garcia (R-Sr., Denver, Colo.) followed with a 3-1 win, then Jasiah Williams (R-So., Portland, Ore.) grabbed a 5-3 decision victory at 149. 
 
Isaiah Diggs (R-Jr., Federal, Wash.) scored a 4-2 decision win to hand the home team an 18-0 lead midway though the bout. Zane Zeman (R-Jr., Avon, Ohio) captured a 6-4 decision win with three takedowns at 165.

Jair Flores (R-So., Pueblo, Colo.) gutted out a 5-3 sudden victory win. Trailing 3-2 he racked up more than two minutes of ride time to earn a point after three periods and tie the match 3-3. About 30 seconds into the first sudden victory period, Flores recorded a takedown to claim the win and had the Pack a 24-0 lead. 
 
Wrestling for the first time this season, Maxwell Martell (R-Fr., Meridian, Idaho) won by a 5-2 decision at 184, then West cleaned up at 197 with his 11-2 major decision win. 
 
The ThunderWolves move right into the Western Colorado Open Friday in Gunnison, Colorado, hosted by Western State Colorado University. The Pack remain in Gunnison Saturday for the Tracy Borah Duals where they will meet San Francisco State University at 10:30 a.m. and Simon Fraser University at 2:30 p.m.
