Pack Men's Hoops return home Friday-Saturday

PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 11, 2019) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team returns home after more than a month away from Massari Arena to do battle in a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests Jan. 11-12. The ThunderWolves welcome Western State Colorado University Friday and Colorado Mesa University Saturday with both contests set for a 7:30 p.m. start. 

LAST TIME OUT

• CSU-Pueblo is 4-9 with a 2-5 RMAC record after going 1-1 on a road trip to Denver to start 2019. The Pack won their second straight game and reached 100 points for the first time this season in a 102-62 victory against Colorado Christian University Friday. The tables turned Saturday, as the ThunderWolves fell to Regis University 84-53.  

• The Pack shot 56.8 percent from the field and went 12-for-23 (52.2%) from long range against CCU. The ThunderWolves defense also stepped up and allowed the Cougars to hit on just 39.1 percent of their shots. CCU entered the game shooting 47.2 percent from the field, which was fourth best in the RMAC.
 
• CSU-Pueblo also cleaned up on the glass by a 46-31 margin. The Pack held the lead for 38:10 of the 40 minutes and built their largest advantage to 43 points at 97-54 with five minutes left in the second half. CSU-Pueblo dished out 20 assists and committed just eight turnovers, while forcing 11 miscues by CCU.
 
• Five players scored in double figures for the Pack, while eight student-athletes posted eight or more points. The Pack were guided by center Jason Anderson, who returned to the lineup after missing the last two games before break. He totaled 15 points in just 16 minutes on a 7-for-9 (77.8%) effort from the field. He also brought down four rebounds and had two steals.
 
• Guard/forward Corey Seng recorded his third straight double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, all on the defensive end. He shot 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the field and added three assists with a steal.
 
• Guard/forward Donovan Oldham totaled 14 points and was 6-for-9 (66.7%) from the field. Guard Gavin Liggett knocked down four 3-pointers on his five attempts (80%) and posted 12 points. Finally, center Harvey Barr produced 11 points off the bench. He shot 5-for-9 (55.6%) from the field, brought down four rebounds and swatted away a game-high three blocks.

• The next night against Regis, the Pack struggled and shot 38.2 from the field. The Rangers shot 54.3 percent in the first half, but finished with 41.6 percent. RU attempted 22 more shots thanks to 27 offensive rebounds and winning the rebounding battle 59-27. The Rangers led 38:32 of game time and built a lead as large as 31.  
 
• Guard Dalen Jackson led the team with 12 points on 5-of-9 (55.6%) shooting from the field and also guided the Pack with four assists. He added two rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes. 

• Barr played 17 minutes and totaled 10 points with three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. 

THE PACK

• The Pack are 1-3 at home this season. 

• CSU-Pueblo owns a 74.5 percentage from the free throw line to rank fifth in the RMAC.

• The ThunderWolves have knocked down 8.8 3-pointers per game (115 total is fourth) this season to sit tied for fifth in the conference. 

• CSU-Pueblo owns 3.4 blocks per game to rank fifth in the league, while its 44 total blocks is fourth. 

• The Pack are scoring 76.5 points per game, but allowing 82.5 points per contest this season. 

•  Redshirt-junior Donovan Oldham leads the team and ranks 11th in the RMAC with 15.5 points per game. His 88.0 percent shooting from the charity stripe is good for third in the conference. Oldham's 32.8 minutes per game is 10th. 

• Redshirt-junior Jason Anderson is second on the team with 11.7 points per game. He is shooting 62.9 percent from the field to lead the conference and rank 13th nationally. His 5.8 rebounds per game is a team best.

• Redshirt-senior Gavin Liggett is seventh in 3-point field goals per game with 2.4. His 31 made 3-pointers is also seventh. He attempted 17 3-pointers at Westminster to have the most attempts in a game by a member of the RMAC this season. He hit eight of those 17 attempts. 

• Junior Harvey Barr has 15 blocks this season to rank tied for sixth in the conference. His 1.2 blocks per game sits tied for eighth. His five blocks against Dixie State ranks tied for the most by an RMAC player this season.

• Sophomore Corey Seng recorded three straight double-doubles from Dec. 14-Jan. 4. In those three games he averaged 13 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 48.3 percent from the field. He pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds against Colorado Christian, while his 17 points against Westminster was just shy of a career-high (18 points last season). 

• Head Coach Ralph Turner is in his eighth season as bench boss of the Pack and owns a 113-94 (.546) overall record. He coached his 200th game as a member of the ThunderWolves Nov. 24 against Lubbock Christian.

THE MOUNTAINEERS

• The Mountaineers have lost seven straight and are 3-10 overall with an 0-7 record in RMAC play. Western is 0-2 in road games. Last weekend at home, WSCU lost 77-69 to Black Hills State and 84-79 to South Dakota Mines.   

• The Mountaineers are scoring 78.4 points per game and allowing 84.6. 

• The team leads the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (11.6) and are second in both 3-point attempts (343) and 3-pointers made (125). They are fourth in assists per game (14.6).

• Western has four players scoring in double figures, guided by Quincy Harding's 19.6 points per game, which ranks third in the league. Harding has an 86.5 free throw percentage to rank fourth in the conference. Brady Subart has 13.8 points per game and owns 2.8 3-pointers per game to sit fourth in the RMAC, while his 46.5 3-point percentage is a conference-best. Jaire Roberts adds 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Off the bench, Cole Sienknecht has 2.4 3-pointers per game to tie for seventh and owns 11.3 points per game with a team-best 54.9 percentage from the field.

THE MAVERICKS

• The Mavericks are tied for third in the league standings with a 5-2 record, while they tout a 10-3 overall mark that is tied for first. Mesa has won three straight, which includes a home sweep last weekend against South Dakota Mines (80-71) and Black Hills State (78-74).

• CMU ranks second in the RMAC with 85 points per game and are allowing 77.6 points per contest for a +7.4 scoring margin that is third in the league. 

• The Mavericks are leading the conference in field goal percentage (53.9%), are second in assists per game (16.1), second in steals per game (8.2), third in assist/turnover ratio (1.16) and fourth in turnover margin (2.0). The team is also second in both free throws attempted (314) and made (221). 

• Connor Nichols leads the RMAC and ranks 13th in Division II with 22.9 points per game. He ranks second in the conference with a 58.6 field goal percentage, while his 7.7 rebounds per game is good for third (6.3 defensive rebounds per game is first). Nichols' 1.7 steals per game is tied for sixth, while his 84.7 free throw percentage is eighth. 

• Brandon Hoffer leads the league with 5.0 assists per game and is second with a 2.32 assist/turnover ratio. Tommy Nuno is seventh with 3.6 assists per game, while his 12.5 points per game is good for third on the team. Damon Dubots is second on the team with 12.6 points per game and is shooting 63.6 percent from the field. Kolton Peterson averages 2.4 3-pointers per game to rank tied for seventh in the conference 

LOOKING AHEAD

• The ThunderWolves are on the road again for four straight Jan. 18-26 before finishing the regular season with seven of their last nine contests at home.
