Pack muscles past UT-Permian Basin

Box Score

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 8, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team finished nonconference play against University of Texas-Permian Basin scoring a 1-0 win over the Falcons Saturday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

With the win, the ThunderWolves picked up their third win of the year and finished 3-1 in nonconference play. It is the Pack's first winning record in nonconference play since 2015.

To start the match both teams came out of the gate aggressive and exchanged numerous fouls at midfield through the first fifteen minutes of play. UTPB recorded the game's first shot with 15:54 expired on the clock and was quickly matched on the other end by CSU-Pueblo's Braeden Hoppough (Jr., R-So., Fairbanks, Alaska) who fired a shot directly at the Falcons goalkeeper and was hauled in.

CSU-Pueblo moved the ball well throughout midfield and forward towards the Falcons net. The trio of Harrison Sikes (Sr., Moore, Okla.), Santiago Tinta (Sr., Quito, Ecuador) and Lewis Chambers (So., Bournemouth, UK) bodied up against the defense and recorded strong minutes for the Pack.

Pack reserves Cesar Zamudio (Jr., Guayquil, Ecuador) and Archie Jones (Fr., London, England) each recorded first half shots and disrupted the Falcons in creating much offense.

Michael Chism (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) took one of his team-leading three shots in the final seconds of the first half.

At the break CSU-Pueblo led 5-1 in shots and both teams took one corner kick.

In the second half, despite some bad and unlucky touches on the ball in the opening fifteen minutes, the Pack was unaffected as they were able to control the game and continued to grind.

In the 81' minute a shot by Zamudio from the right side was ricochet and landed at the foot of Dominik Huetgens (Fr., Halstenbek, Germany) who toed in the ball past the defense and goalkeeper. It is Huetgens first goal scored with the ThunderWolves.

For the remainder of the game UTPB managed only one more shot that was fended off by Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (Jr., Henderson, Nev.) for his second save of the game. Harvey improves to 3-1 at the net and posted his third shutout of the season in the victory.

CSU-Pueblo (3-1) opens Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Sept. 14 at Adams State at 1 p.m. The Pack return home Sunday, Sept. 16 and host Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
