Roadrunners scurry past ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 26, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team were unable to find their groove Monday against Metro State University of Denver dropping game one 8-4 and falling 4-1 in the series finale at Runyon Field.

In game one, MSU Denver took a 1-0 lead in the first on three singles in a row.

The Roadrunners extended the lead in the second scoring five runs on five hits including three extra-base hits.

Pack starting pitcher K'Lee Kent (Sr., Hobbs, NM) lasted 1.1 inning and allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits.

CSU-Pueblo responded scoring single runs over the next two innings on hits by Vivian Ledesma (Jr., Colton, Calif.) and Sabrina Felix (So., Corona, Calif.).

The visitors added two more runs in the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 lead going to the final at bat.

In the last at bat CSU-Pueblo created traffic on the base paths and scored a pair of runs on hits by Alyssa Ubrun (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) and Hailey Bennett (So., Norco, Calif.).

MSUD starting pitcher Darby McGhee retired the side on a pop up in the infield to get the win.

In the series finale the Roadrunners jumped to an early 1-0 advantage with the ThunderWolves reacting with a single run of their own in the fourth on a fielder's choice hit by the designated player Kent.

The Roadrunners offense scored three more runs over the last three frames to seal the 4-1 win.

CSU-Pueblo was limited to six hits led by Michaela Burpee (Jr., Union City, Calif.) with two hits.

Starting in the circle for the ThunderWolves, Laci Lashely (R-Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was tabbed with the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. She lasted five innings and allowed two runs on nine hits and one strikeout.

CSU-Pueblo (3-8, 2-2 RMAC) hits the road Mar. 3-4 and battles Black Hills State in a four game RMAC series.
