GOLDEN, Colo. (Dec. 8, 2018) – A small group of athletes, comprised mostly of field competitors and throwers, from the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs traveled to the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi Thursday and Friday in Golden, Colorado.
In all the Pack produced one event victory and a three NCAA provisional marks.
For the men, freshman
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont.) got his first collegiate throwing experience after spending the fall playing on the defensive line as a true freshman for the CSU-Pueblo football team. He didn't waste any time getting his first meet victory, as his final shot put throw traveled 15.75m (51' 8.25") to claim first place.
Sophomore
Nathaniel Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was fourth in the event after he produced a win in the shot last week. Miller's top throw registered at 15.01m (49' 3").
Senior
Jacob Smith (Strasburg, Colo.) competed in his first heptathlon of the season and totaled 4,499 points to finish 10th.
Tatianna Clanton (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the women, as she recorded a provisional mark in the long jump with her top leap going for 5.78m (18' 10.75") to finish second to an unattached athlete from Colorado State University. She posted a provisional mark in the 60m with a time of 7:59 to finish third. The senior grabbed NCAA marks in both events last weekend, but wasn't able to improve on them at the meet.
Junior
Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas) also registered a provisional mark in the long jump at 5.73m (18' 9.75") to finish fourth. She matched her best jump from last week. Fairchild was fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.87.
Jenna McKinley (Jr., Mosca, Colo.) was runner-up in the weight throw with her top toss going for 14.72m (48' 3.5"). She was also fourth in the shot put with a throw of 12.60m (41' 4.25").
Junior
Lydia Pavlenko (Portland, Ore.) was third in the high jump with her top leap covering 1.60m (5' 3").
Some of these athletes will join the rest of the squad as they compete Saturday at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite in Colorado Springs. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will be hosting their inaugural meet at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse. Saturday will begin with men's weight throws at 11:30 a.m., followed by the first track event starting at 1:00 p.m. with the women's 5000m finals.
