PUEBLO, Colo. (Dec. 14, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team will open the home portion of their schedule Saturday, Dec. 15 when the ThunderWolves host No. 2 University of Nebraska-Kearney beginning at 2 p.m. at Massari Arena. Monday, a group of wrestlers will travel to the Las Vegas Desert Duals where the Pack have three duals on the docket.

UNK has six wrestlers ranked nationally in the top 12 in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll from Nov. 28. All six wrestlers are scheduled to compete, which includes Matt Malcolm at 157 who holds the top spot nationally. 

The ThunderWolves have one wrestler currently ranked nationally in D'Andre Brumfield (R-Jr., Dallas, Texas), who sits No. 5 at 133. 

The last time the two teams met in a dual format was Jan. 28, 2017 where the then-No. 13 ThunderWolves edged the then-No. 2 Lopers by the score of 22-21. Two current members of the Pack were victorious in their bouts, as seniors Josiah Seaton (Bonner Springs, Kan.) and PT Garcia (Denver, Colo.) won at 125 (9-4 decision) and 133 (pin), respectfully. 

The ThunderWolves have competed in three open tournaments so far this season. Heavyweight Gavin Nye (R-Fr., Gerber, Calif.) leads the team in wins with a 9-5 record and a team-best five pins. Haszell West (R-Jr., Portland, Ore.) is 4-0 after winning the UNK Holiday Inn Open at 197. Four members of the squad will be competing in their first action of the year Saturday, which includes two players coming off a season with the Pack football team. 

Monday, the ThunderWolves will compete at the Flamingo Casino and Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in the Las Vegas Desert Duals. Action starts at 9 a.m. MT and is a rolling schedule from there. CSU-Pueblo starts off with No. 6 Minnesota State University, Mankato, then moves on to No. 8 University of Pittsburg-Johnstown and finishes with Coe College, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III.
