Pack open RMAC season at NMHU Saturday

PUEBLO, Colo. (Nov. 30, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's basketball team begins Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Saturday, Dec. 1 at New Mexico Highlands University. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start from Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, N.M.

THE PACK

• CSU-Pueblo is 2-4 this season and have a 0-1 record in true road games. The Pack are coming off a road trip to Canyon, Texas to close nonconference play. The ThunderWolves lost 105-71 at No. 7 West Texas A&M and suffered an 89-79 setback to Lubbock Christian. 

• CSU-Pueblo owns a 79.8 percentage from the free throw line to rank first in the RMAC and 17th in NCAA Division II.

• The team's 46.6 percent shooting from the field is good for third in the RMAC, while their 38.3 percentage from long range ranks fifth in the league. The ThunderWolves have knocked down 8.5 3-pointers per game this season to also sit fifth in the conference. 

• The Pack are scoring 75.7 points per game, but allowing 86.2 points per contest this season. 

•  Redshirt-junior Donovan Oldham leads the team and ranks eighth in the RMAC with 17 points per game. His 91.3 percent shooting from the charity stripe is good for fourth in the conference. 

• Redshirt-junior Jason Anderson is second on the team with 12.0 points per game. He is shooting 62.0 percent from the field to rank fourth in the conference and 36th nationally. His 6.0 rebounds per game is a team best. 

• Redshirt-freshman Dalen Jackson has earned increased minutes and even a start in the last four games. He is 10-for-17 from 3-point land for a 58.8 percentage that ranks first in the RMAC. His 2.5 3-pointers per game is ninth in the league. Jackson averages 9.5 points per game in the four contests he has played in. 

• Freshman Cade Carrol has played in all six games and is averaging 11.3 points in 23.7 minutes per game off the bench.

• Head Coach Ralph Turner is in his eighth season as bench boss of the Pack and owns a 111-89 (.555) overall record. He coached his 200th game as a member of the ThunderWolves Nov. 24 against Lubbock Christian.

THE COWBOYS

• The Cowboys are 4-1 to start the season and have won four straight games.

• NMHU leads the RMAC in points per game with an 87.8 average and are second in scoring margin at +10.8. The scoring average was guided by a 119-84 home victory against University of the Southwest. 

• The Cowboys also lead the league in assist-to-turnover ration (1.5) and rank top five in steals (2nd, 8.6), turnover margin (2nd, +4.0), field goal percentage (3rd, 47.7), 3-pointers made (3rd, 9.2), blocked shots (T-4th, 4.2), free throw percentage (5th, 74.4), field goal percentage defense (5th, 42.6%) and assists (5th, 15.2).

• Guard Gerad Davis leads the Cowboys and is third in the conference in scoring at 22 points per game. He also adds 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Jordan Jones is averaging 14.4 points and 1.8 steals per game, Raquan Mitchell is averaging 13.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists (tied for sixth in the RMAC) while Nnamdi Okoro is at 11.0 points, 8.2 rebounds (third in the RMAC) and 1.6 blocks per game (sixth in the RMAC). Okoro is also second in the conference in field goal percentage (71.4 percent).

LOOKING AHEAD

• The ThunderWolves open the home RMAC schedule Dec. 7-8, as Adams State University and Fort Lewis College, respectively, visit Massari Arena. Both games are scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
