ThunderWolves shutout at No. 11 Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 29, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team dropped two run-ruled Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Saturday at Colorado Mesa falling 11-2 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings in the nightcap at CMU Softball Field.

The ThunderWolves managed five hits in two games and received three hits from Gabby Moreno (Fr., 3B, Scottsdale, Ariz.) including two doubles and an RBI for the Pack.

In game one CSU-Pueblo earned singles in each of the first and third innings. The fifth inning Nicole Montoya (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) got an RBI on a sac flyout. Later in the inning Moreno slugged her eleventh double of the season scoring the Pack's second run of the game.

Pack starting pitcher Shannon Lieber (Sr., Lone Tree, Colo.) lasted 1 1/3 innings and gave up four runs all earned and was tabbed with the loss falling to 2-7 on the season.

Lexie Martindale (Sr., DP, Pueblo, Colo.) pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and gave up seven runs, three earned and struck out two CMU batters.

Game two CMU scored three runs in the second inning on a three-run homerun hit by Abby Toller.

The Mavericks tacked on four more runs and built a 7-0 lead in the fourth on homeruns hit by Toller again and Brook Hodgson.

The potent CMU lineup batted in the game winning run on two hits in the sixth, closing out the 8-0 run rule shortened game.

The Pack was held to just one hit in the first inning and had no answer to the strong performance by CMU pitcher Kimbri Herring.

K'Lee Kent (Jr., Hobbs, NM) was hit with the loss and falls to 4-10 on the year.

CSU-Pueblo (19-27, 16-22 RMAC) finishes the regular season Sunday with another doubleheader set for 11 AM at CMU Softball Field.
