ThunderWolves split Saturday doubleheader versus Adams State

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 11, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team earned a split on day one of a weekend RMAC series against Adams State Saturday at Rawlings Softball Complex. The Pack scored a 7-6 win in game one and fell 13-7 in the nightcap.

CSU-Pueblo (8-10, 5-5 RMAC) scored five runs in its final at bat of game one including the game winning single off the bat of K'Lee Kent (Jr., P, Hobbs, NM).

The Pack scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third on a RBI-single by Sabrina Felix (Fr., OF, Corona, Calif.) scoring Kennedy Smith (Sr., OF, Fillmore, Calif.) who singled to lead off the inning.

Adams State responded with five runs over the next two innings and took a 5-1 lead.

CSU-Pueblo added a run in the sixth on an RBI-double hit by Moriah Turney (Sr., 2B, Brighton, Colo.).

ASU tacked on a single run in the seventh to built a 6-2 lead.

The ThunderWolves big scoring seventh was highlighted by a two-run double by Christa Angers (Fr., 1B, Villa Park, Calif.) and another RBI-single by Turney to tie the game at 6-6 set the stage for Kent.

In the circle Kent lasted 3 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, all earned on seven hits and four strikeouts.

Lexie Martindale (Sr., DP, Pueblo, Colo.) earned the win and improved to 6-4 on the season after she was called on in the fourth inning and pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two runs, both earned, and scattered four hits and two strikeouts.

In the first inning of game two CSUP smacked back-to-back doubles by Gabby Moreno (Fr., 3B, Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Felix coupled with a single off the bat of Martindale put the Pack up 2-0 after the first.

The Grizzlies scored six runs over the next two frames and jumped to a 6-2 lead heading to the home half of the third.

In their at bat the ThunderWolves got within one run after plating three runs on Michaela Burpee (So., C, Union City, Calif.) three-run bomb over the right field wall cutting ASU's lead to 6-5.

ASU scored seven runs over the next three innings and built a 13-5 lead.

The Pack tacked on single runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings but was unable to muster much offense.

CSU-Pueblo's runs came on an RBI-triple by Burpee in the fifth and an RBI-single from Nicole Montoya (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) in the sixth inning.

Shannon Lieber (Sr., P, Lone Tree, Colo.) was tabbed with the loss and fell to 1-3 on the year.

The teams will conclude the series Sunday with another doubleheader set for 11 a.m. at Rawlings Softball Complex.
