Pack and Mountain Lions play to scoreless tie

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 18, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team played a rare midweek match Wednesday at University of Colorado Colorado Springs coming away with a scoreless tie after two overtime periods at Mountain Lion Stadium.

The story of the match was the stellar defensive play of the ThunderWolves back line of Connor Marth (Sr., Tulsa, Okla.), Lewis Chambers (Fr., Bournemouth, UK), and Michael Chism (R-So., Littleton, Colo.).

The trio helped the Pack hold UCCS to two shots on goal in the first half and cleared any ball that landed inside the box.

The first half the ThunderWolves played toe-to-toe with the home team and fired six shots in the period against UCCS seven attempts.

Cameron Campbell (So., Laramie, Wyo.) shot two attempts in the first half to lead the Pack.

CSU-Pueblo gained three corner kicks to the Mountain Lions zero in the first forty-five minutes and trailed 3-2 in shots on goal.

In the second half the ThunderWolves defense continued to buckle down and shut down any scoring threat when the Mountain Lions drove the ball into Pack territory.

The Pack limited UCCS to four shots in the second half.

At the end of regulation, CSU-Pueblo's Miles Sanchez (So., Bothell, Wash.) and Protus Babaya (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) each recorded two shots matching Campbell.

In the first overtime period Sanchez added two more shots at the net attacking UCCS goalkeeper David Meyer.

With 3:14 showing on the clock in the first overtime CSU-Pueblo was called for a foul which resulted in a red card being issued as a result of a double caution in the game.

The Pack and Mountain Lions entered the final overtime and played much of the time on the Pack's side of the field as UCCS shot two times at Pack goalkeeper Tyler Harvey (So., Las Vegas, Nev.) who made two saves in the period and three in the match for the ThunderWolves.

For the match UCCS held 18-17 shots advantage while the Pack led 7-4 on corner kicks.

CSU-Pueblo (2-9-4, 2-5-4 RMAC) returns home Friday and host South Dakota Mines at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium. Pack head coach Roy Stanley and his staff will honor three departing seniors.

Marth, Lorenz Delaney (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Erich Frey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will play their final home games as members of the Pack and will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
