CSU-Pueblo falls to Colorado Mines

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 18, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team dropped its fourth straight game Sunday falling 3-0 to Colorado School of Mines at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

The Orediggers scored all of their goals in the second half after the Pack battled a strong first half facing a formidable Mines offense.

The first half was controlled heavily by the Orediggers as they fired nine shots to the ThunderWolves two in the opening period.

After a quick turnaround from Friday's match, the Pack struggled in keeping pace with the Orediggers. "Our guys played hard today and they hadn't played since Wednesday," said CSU-Pueblo head coach Roy Stanley.

Forwards Dycus Kelly (So., Laramie, Wyo.) and Mackenzie Paquette (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) each fired a shot in the first half.

Pack goalkeeper Erich Frey (R-So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) made four of his five saves in the first forty-five minutes.

In the second half CSU-Pueblo picked up the momentum, keeping possession in Orediggers' territory and shooting several chances at the net.

Miles Sanchez (Fr., Bothell, Wash.) broke free ahead of the defense firing his first shot at the Orediggers goalkeeper.

CSM scored the games' first goal in the 59th minute on good footwork on the far right side of the field striking a ball to the back of the net.

In the 68th minute following a CSU-Pueblo foul, Mines connected the free kick to the back post with a header shot and a 2-0 lead.

"We played a better second half, our legs just ran out on us and Mines put away their chances", added Stanley.

Mines scored for a third time in the waning minutes putting away the Pack.

CSU-Pueblo (2-4, 0-2 RMAC) remains at home next week when they welcome Adams State and Fort Lewis to town.
