ThunderWolves split Sunday doubleheader and series at Western New Mexico

SILVER CITY, N.M. (April 3, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team earned a much needed series split at Western New Mexico as the Pack went even in Sunday's twin bill, getting shutout 12-0 in five innings in game one and responding with a 7-4 victory to conclude the series.

In game one CSU-Pueblo managed one hit, an infield single to open the contest, against the dominate pitching performance by WNMU's Domi Shone who allowed one hit and struckout two.

The Mustangs put the game out of reach with a ten spot over the first two innings including an eight-run second inning on seven hits.

Hope Davalos (R-Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) pitched 1 1/3 inning and allowed six runs on six hits. 

Pack pitcher Shannon Lieber (Jr., Lone Tree, Colo.) came on relief throwing two and two-thirds innings surrendering six runs and nine hits.

In the series finale the Pack scored a single run in the first inning on an RBI-double by Dora Hernandez (Sr., Benton City, Wash.) scoring Moriah Turney (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) who reached via hit by pitch.

CSU-Pueblo added another run in their next at-bat on another RBI-double this time off the bat of Shelby Bennett (Fr., Norco, Calif.), allowing Michaela Burpee (Fr., Union City, Calif.) to score.

WNMU evened the score in the third on back-to-back doubles.

The Pack responded with four runs in the fourth on five hits highlighted by a 2-run single by Hernandez to regain the lead at 6-2.

Bennett earned her third hit and third RBI of the game in the fifth adding to the lead.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the sixth on two hits bringing the score to what would be the final score 7-4.

CSU-Pueblo had a season high sixteen hits in the contest.

Bennett, Burpee, and Hernandez each finished 3-for-4 in the game.

Madison Wolfe (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) picked up her second win of the season in the circle, going the distance in allowing four runs on six hits and five strikeouts. 

CSU-Pueblo (8-29, 7-19 RMAC) returns home and play host to Adams State in a four game series beginning Saturday at noon at Rawlings Softball Complex.
