GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (April 29, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team scored two runs in their final at bat, rallying past UCCS 4-3 in an elimination game at the RMAC Tournament Friday at the CMU Softball Field.
Moriah Turney (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) connected one of her two hits in the seventh inning, with two runners on, hitting a single to center field scoring the winning run from second.
Senior first baseman Sarah DiTommaso (Lake Forest, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs for the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo scored the game's first runs in the second inning on three hits including a two-run single up the middle by DiTommaso.
Pack starting pitcher Madison Wolfe (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) went the distance, allowing three runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and zero walks.
UCCS evened the score 2-2 in the fourth, scoring two runs on three hits in the inning.
Both Wolfe and Mountain Lions pitcher Haley Smith battled for much of the game, putting up zeroes in the middle part of the game.
The Mountain Lions took a 3-2 lead in the seventh hitting two singles in the frame heading to the final at bat.
In the bottom of the seventh Kennedy Smith (Jr., Fillmore, Calif.) smacked her first hit of the game to right field keeping the Pack's season alive.
Shelby Bennett (Fr., Norco, Calif.) came in to pinch run for Smith at first, scoring on a single by DiTommaso and UCCS fielding error tying the game.
The next hitter Vivian Ledesma (Fr., Colton, Calif.) hit a hard groundball through the left side of the infield setting up Turney in the next at bat.
CSU-Pueblo (19-30) advances in the tournament and will next play Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the CMU Softball Field. The Pack will play the loser of the Colorado Mesa-Colorado Mines contest, the teams play Friday at 3:45.
