PUEBLO, Colo. (March 6, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team completed a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series split Sunday versus UCCS. The Pack won game one 5-1 before dropping the series finale 3-0.
In game one of the double dip CSU-Pueblo left fielder Shelby Bennett (Fr., Norco, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs collected and two runs scored in the win.
She made her first plate appearance in the bottom of the second inning, hitting a two-run double that rolled to the wall, giving the Pack a 3-0 lead.
UCCS responded with a single run in the top of the third on two hits.
Bennett's second plate appearance came in the fourth inning when she belted her first career homerun to right centerfield, collecting RBIs three and four for the game, extending the Pack lead to 5-1.
Pack starting pitcher Hope Davalos (R-Fr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) had another solid outing against the Mountain Lions, tossing seven innings and allowed one run on four hits including one strikeout.
Right fielder Dora Hernandez (Sr., Benton City, Wash.) gathered two of the Pack's seven hits in going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game two was a pitcher's dual as Davalos, making her third appearance of the weekend and Stephanie Chitkowski of UCCS each were coasting through the first four innings, allowing a combined four hits over that span in the scoreless affair.
The sixth inning was the lone blemish on the day against Davalos as she allowed three runs on five hits including one Pack error to give the opponents a 3-0 lead.
CSU-Pueblo threatned in each of the final two innings but left four runners on base in that span to succumb to the Mountain Lions.
The Pack had five players collect one hit.
On the weekend Davalos went 2-1 in four appearances. She finished with fourteen strikeouts and allowed six runs, five earned and allowed three free passes.
Offensively Bennett and Hernandez collected four hits and two doubles. Bennett earned five RBIs.
CSU-Pueblo (5-18, 4-8 RMAC) remains at home for an RMAC pod series with the Pack playing host to Colorado Mesa and Chadron State Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Rawlings Softball Complex.
