RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 29, 2016)  — The No. 19 ranked Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team wrapped up its home portion of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual action in fine fashion Friday night with a 32-14 victory against Adams State University.

For the Pack (2-7 overall, 1-2 RMAC), their first dual win inside the conference couldn't have come at a better time as the team tries to build momentum heading into Sunday's RMAC Championships, which will be held at the U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs.

Following a forfeit that put the Pack up 6-0 prior to any action, junior Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore.) set the tone for the evening in the 165-pound class with a 5-4 come-from-behind decision victory over the Grizzlies Koery Windham. Bateman, who trailed 4-2 midway through the second period and 4-3 entering the third, scored an escape and took the lead for good on a stalling penalty called against Windham.

Joining Bateman in the win column Friday was No. 4 ranked heavyweight Jacob Mitchell (Portland, Ore.), redshirt junior Kyle Fantin (Crave Creek, Ariz.) and senior Tim Urenda (Pueblo, Colo.).

Mitchell, who currently owns the No. 1 ranking in the Super Region Four amongst heavyweights, was dominant as he pinned Adams State's Tuli Laulu in 52 seconds to improve his record to 7-0 with six falls.

At 141, Fantin notched his first dual win of the season and improved to 10-17 overall, with a methodical 16-1 tech fall victory over Joshua Salas that mathematically sealed the dual for CSU-Pueblo.

Pueblo's own Tim Urenda then provided the exclamation point for the evening as his pinned Devin Vasquez in 1:12, improving his record 9-4 overall and 3-0 inside the RMAC to conclude the 32-14 dual victory. Urenda, the reigning RMAC Wrestler of the Week, is No. 6 in Super Region Four.

CSU-Pueblo will have Saturday off before competing Sunday in Colorado Springs in the first RMAC-only Wrestling Championship since 1996. Action will get underway at 9 a.m. inside the U.S. Olympic Complex.
