ThunderWolves fall in extras to WNMU at RMAC Tournament

DENVER, Colo. (May 1, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team's season came to an end Friday, following a 5-4 loss in 10 innings, against Western New Mexico at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in Denver.

Western N.M., the designated home team, scored the first run of the game in the opening inning on two base hits for an early 1-0 lead.

CSU-Pueblo responded with two runs scored in the top of the second inning on two RBI-singles from Kennedy Smith (So., C, Fillmore, Calif.) and Alyssa Ubrun (Fr., 3B, Olympia, Wash.) gave the ThunderWolves a 2-1 lead.

The Pack added two more runs in the third inning when Smith stepped to the plate for her second at bat, hitting a single through the right side of the infield, plating two runners who had reached safely via base on balls.

Smith led the Pack offensively, finishing 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.

Pack pitcher Madison Wolfe (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.) got the starting nod in the circle for the Pack.

In the bottom of the fifth, with the Pack holding a 4-1 lead, the Mustangs led off the frame with an single and hit batter set the stage for WNMU Stephanie Higgins who belted a three-run shot, tying the game at four.

Following a hitless fifth and sixth inning, the ThunderWolves led off the top of the seventh inning with a double hit by Sidney Bailey (Sr., OF, Pueblo, Colo.) and another double in the inning from Wolfe were unable to score, taking the game into extra innings.

In extras, both teams collected four hits combined before the tenth inning.

In the home half of the tenth, the Mustangs first two hitters reached base safely, resulting in a pitching change for the Pack.

Kelli Henry (Sr., P, Monument, Colo.) came on to pitch with the two runners on base and nobody out, Henry induced two groundball outs before a single through the left side plated the runner home from third, sealing the extra-inning win 5-4.

Wolfe was tabbed with the loss, throwing 9.0 innings, allowing five runs on ten hits by the Mustangs. She recorded seven strikeouts, ending the year with a 7-7 record.

CSU-Pueblo ends the season with a 28-23 record overall. Snyder also concludes her career with the Pack, finishing as the all-time leader in stolen bases with 118 base swipes.
