ThunderWolves softball drop two at NMHU

LAS VEGAS, NM  (March 21, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team dropped a pair of games at New Mexico Highlands University Saturday, falling 9-4 in game one against the Cowgirls and losing 2-0 in the second game of the day.

The Pack began the game quiet through four innings, surrendering two runs in the home half of the third inning on four Cowgirl hits.

CSU-Pueblo offensive came alive in the fourth, Alyssa Ubrun (Fr., 3B, Olympia, Wash.) belted her fourth home run of the season, with one out in the inning to get the ThunderWolves on the board. The next two hitters reached safely, setting the stage for Alexa Snyder (Sr., 2B, Pueblo, Colo.) who hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring three runs and taking a 4-2 lead through four and half innings.

The Cowgirls responded with four runs in the home half of the inning and another three in the bottom of the fifth, sealing the 9-4 win.

Madison Wolfe (Jr., P,  Oxnard, Calif.) was tagged with the loss, falling to 5-5 on the season. Wolfe threw 4.1 innings, allowing nine runs with four strikeouts. Yvanna Bejarano (Sr., P, Thatcher, Ariz.) came on in relief, throwing 1.2 innings of no hit ball.

In game two, Bejarano started in the circle for the Pack, throwing five innings, allowing two runs on ten hits. She recorded one strikeout.

The Cowgirls scored their two runs in the third with a leadoff triple from Ka'uilani Kamai, followed by three singles, giving NMHU a 2-0 lead after three.

CSU-Pueblo was held to five hits in the game. Kennedy Smith (So., C, Fillmore, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the ThunderWolves.

The ThunderWolves would rally in the final at bat, loading the bases but was unable to score, losing 2-0. It is just the second time this season the Pack have been shutout.

CSU-Pueblo (12-14, 8-6 RMAC) will play another doubleheader Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. at Brandt Field.
