LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 1, 2015) ~ The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's golf team battled tough weather conditions to finish in a tie for seventh after day one of the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. The ThunderWolves recorded a team score of 333, matching them with Missouri-St. Louis.
CSU-Pueblo had two players conclude the first 18 holes in the top 10 on the leaderboard. Leina Kim (Jr., Saipan, CNMI) and Julie Sanchez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) both carded first-round scores of 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for seventh place. Sanchez tied for first amongst all players with 12 pars on day one.
Natasha Navarro (So., San Antonio, Texas) and Samantha Geisick (Fr., Greely, Colo.) finished one shot apart as Navarro ranked in a tie for 42nd with a 16-over 88 and Geisick tallied a 17-over 89, placing her in 46th place. Megan McCutcheon (Fr., Monument, Colo.) rounded out the scoring for the Pack, landing in 64th with a tally of 101.
Midwestern State leads the 13-team field with a cumulative score of 314. Marla Souvannasing of Central Oklahoma was the only player to record an even-par day, tallying a 72 to finish in first place entering Monday's final round.
The Las Vegas Desert Classic wraps up Monday with the final 18 holes.
