ThunderWolves wrap up regular season against Colorado Christian and No. 8 Colorado Mines

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team will conclude the regular season with two nonconference home matches against Colorado Christian and No. 8 Colorado Mines.

In the final two games before the postseason, the Pack host the Cougars Friday under the lights at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium and Sunday face No. 8 Colorado Mines Orediggers on Senior Day at the pitch.

CSU-Pueblo clinched its first postseason berth since 2011 following the 4-2 win Sunday over Regis, securing the sixth seed in the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Pack picked up its fourth shutout of the season Friday with a 4-nil decision over South Dakota Mines & Technology. Matt Marchena (Sr., F, Littleton, Colo.) netted his first career hat trick all in the first half pacing the ThunderWolves. Marchena scored his fourth goal of the weekend Sunday in the 65th minute against Regis.  

For his efforts, Marchena was awarded RMAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Marchena leads the RMAC in goals and points, putting him 19th in the nation and his 26 points place him 22nd in NCAA Division II.

Senior midfielder Sam Glawe (Allen, Tex.) received accolades for his combined performances athletically and in the classroom as he was named to College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team maintaining a 3.74 GPA majoring in Business Management.  

Pack head coach Roy Stanley and staff will honor the five departing seniors who will play in their final home game Sunday as members of the ThunderWolves.

Seniors being honored in a pregame ceremony are: Glawe, Jack Gonzales (D., Centennial, Colo.), Sam Haseltine (GK, St. Louis, Mo.), Marchena, and TJ Thiebaut (Mid., Pueblo, Colo.).

Against the Cougars, the Pack is 38-10-3 including a 4-0 decision Sept. 20 in Lakewood. Versus the Orediggers, CSU-Pueblo has gone 9-33-4 all time.

Friday's match against the Cougars is scheduled for 7 p.m. and Sunday's game is set for 1 p.m., both at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
