ThunderWolves clinch postseason berth versus Regis on Parent's Day

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 25, 2015) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team defeated Regis University 4-2 Sunday on Parent's Day at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium clinching an RMAC postseason berth.

Playing the final conference game of the season and needing a victory to secure a spot in the postseason, the ThunderWolves had a strong first half in all facets of the game, matching the physical play versus the Rangers.

CSU-Pueblo broke the scoreless affair in the 16th minute on a goal by Jack Gonzales (R-Sr., D, Centennial, Colo.) who struck a perfectly served ball from Zach Davis (R-So., D, Tucson, Ariz.) to the far side of goal.

The Pack kept possession in Ranger territory for much of the half, firing ten shots in the period.

Senior Sam Glawe (Mid., Allen, Tex.) netted his sixth goal of the season in the 32nd minute to give the Pack the 2-nil lead. 

Sergio Rizo (Jr., Mid., Buckeye, Ariz.) was credited with the assist.

CSU-Pueblo added to its lead on a strike from Davis past the goalkeeper after receiving the ball from Ben Jepson (R-Jr., D, Manchester, U.K.) in the 41st minute.

At the half, the Pack held a 10-6 shot advantge and 10-3 on corner kick attempts.

Opening the second half, Regis gathered possession quickly driving into Pack territory scoring two goals in under one minute, cutting into the lead 3-2.

Matt Marchena (Sr., F, Littleton, Colo.) netted an insurance goal in the 65th minute, his fourth of the weekend and twelfth on the year, giving CSU-Pueblo a two goal lead.

Pack goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) played effective minutes at the net, making four saves on nine shots from Regis.

The RMAC Tournament berth is the first since 2011 for the Pack.

CSU-Pueblo (9-7-0, 5-5-0 RMAC) will enter as the sixth-seed and play at the third seed in the tourney in the opening round.

The ThunderWolves will close out the regular season with two nonconference games. Friday playing host to Colorado Chrisitian, followed with a Sunday matchup against the Orediggers of Colorado Mines both at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
