Paquette scores twice leading the Pack to win over Adams State

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 11, 2015) – Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer led by Mackenzie Paquette (Jr., D, Phoenix, Ariz.) with two goals and an assist, battled past Adams State University 4-1 Sunday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

CSU-Pueblo opened the game sluggish on defense with Adams State managing three shots in the first twelve minutes.

The Pack defense anchored by Jack Gonzales (Sr., D, Centennial, Colo.) and Zach Davis (So, D, Tucson, Ariz.) helped fend off nine first half shots from the Grizzlies.

Paquette was in the right place at the right time in the 31st minute, on one of three first half corner kicks for the Pack, receiving the ball from Sam Glawe (Sr., D, Allen, Tex.), Paquette controlled the ball on the ground, striking the back of the net breaking the scoreless affair.

Minutes later Glawe was on the receiving end of a pass by Paquette, firing a shot beyond the goalkeeper, for a 2-0 lead. It is Glawe's fourth goal of the season.

Adams State cut into the lead minutes before halftime, taking advantage of a defensive miscue.

ASU took a 9-5 shots lead into halftime while CSU-Pueblo lead 3-1 in corner kick attempts.

Into the second half the score remained unchanged until the 76th minute when Pack forward Matt Marchena (Sr., Littleton, Colo.) drove the ball up the center of the field before a tackle inside the box resulted in a penalty kick.

Marchena was successful in the attempt, scoring his team high seventh goal of the season and extending the lead 3-1.

Pack goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) made four saves at the net earning the victory.

Paquette secured goal number two in the 86th minute, receiving a corner kicked ball after circling inside the box, footing it past the keeper. Paquette now has three goals on the year.

Connor Marth (So., D, Tulsa, Okla.) was credited with the assist.

CSU-Pueblo (6-6-0, 2-4-0 RMAC) hit the western slope Friday traveling to RMAC-newcomer Westminster University, followed by a Sunday matchup at Colorado Mesa University.
