PUEBLO, Colo. (September 26, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team surrendered a goal minutes into the second half against Colorado Mesa, falling 1-0 to the Mavericks.
The Mavericks broke the scoreless game at 55:24, on a shot from Stevie Palma who took a rebounded ball and placed it to the back of the net past a diving Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO) to take the lead 1-0.
Haseltine faced eight shots in the game, making four saves.
The Pack had numerous chances at goal, having gathered eleven shots to the Mavericks seven in the first 45:00 minutes. CSU-Pueblo managed nine shots in the final period but were unable to capitalize.
Matt Marchena (Jr., Forward, Littleton, Colo.) led the offensive shot attack with five in the game, three were on goal. Jonny Sawyer (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) had four shots of his own with one being on goal.
Colorado Mesa led in corner kicks, 9-7.
In the game there was six yellow cards issued to go with 35 fouls called between the teams, 18 against CMU, and 17 against CSU-Pueblo.
CSU-Pueblo (1-6, 0-3 RMAC) will remain at home Sunday when they welcome the Metro State University Denver Roadrunners, kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Complex.
