CSU-Pueblo falls at home

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 21, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team hosted the Colorado School of Mines Sunday in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home opener for the ThunderWolves, falling 2-1 to the Orediggers.

The Pack began the game with energy and quickness, getting their fair share of opportunities in a physical first half. After the first 45:00 minutes, CSU-Pueblo had outshot Mines 13-9, and led in corner kicks, 6-3.

There were nine fouls called in the first half alone, three against the Pack, to the Orediggers' six. The Pack were also issued a red card in the 32nd minute, which forced CSU-Pueblo to play with a disadvantage for the remainder of the game.

Colorado Mines struck first when Richard Garvey connected on a pass from the far right corner of the field for the 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later the Orediggers had possession again in ThunderWolves territory when they connected on a goal from a free kick about forty yards away from goal extending the lead 2-0.

The second half was just as physical with both teams being called with sixteen more fouls between them, and each collecting six shots in the half.

The Pack cut the lead in half when in the 71st minute, on a Connor Marth (Fr., Midfielder, Tulsa, Okla.) assisted pass, from the top right corner of the box into a trailing Ryan Cass (Fr., Forward, Jenks, Okla.) who one-timed the ball into the back of the goal. It was the first goal of the season for Cass.

Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO) was effective at goalkeeper, making nine saves on fifteen Oredigger shots.
