PUEBLO, Colo. (September 14, 2014) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday with a 1-0 victory in overtime against Texas Permian-Basin at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Complex.
CSU-Pueblo's Sam Glawe (Jr., Allen, Tex.) connected on a one-time pass from Jonny Sawyer (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) to the back of the net, just two minutes into the extra period, ending the winless drought. The game winning goal is the first of the season for Glawe.
The ThunderWolves outshot the Falcons in the first half 13-3 in a scoreless game, before finishing with a 24-10 advantage.
"Our guys came out with a lot of energy and discipline," Head coach Roy Stanley said. "Statistically it was not even close."
The Pack offense was on full attack as they obtained a season-high 11 corner kicks, holding UTPB to only 2.
Reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO) was solid again for the Pack, making seven saves on ten shots.
Glawe was active offensively with six shots and Sawyer with four shots in the game.
The Falcons were led by Nathan Cotterell who had seven of his own shots.
"We have played consistently in our non-conference games, our soccer IQ is improving," said Stanley. "We are ready for the conference games to begin next week at Regis."
The ThunderWolves (1-3-0) will open the conference portion of their schedule Friday when they travel to Denver to play at Regis University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
