LAS VEGAS (GoThunderWolves.com – Feb. 8, 2014) – Samantha Avii (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate while Madison Wolfe (So., Oxnard, Calif.) turned in a solid effort in the circle as the Colorado State University-Pueblo picked up their first win of the 2014 season by a 4-1 margin over Texas-Permian Basin, Saturday here at Majestic Park.
Now 1-2 on the season and in the Desert Stinger Classic, the Pack scored twice in both the bottom of the first and sixth innings while Wolfe gave up just one extra-base hit, a Nikki Brailsford solo homer in the top of the third.
After getting out of a 2-runner jam in the top of the first, CSU-Pueblo second baseman Alexa Snyder (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) led off the bottom half of the inning with a triple before scoring on a Falcon fielding error.
Avii then doubled in Sidney Bailey (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) to extend the lead to 2-0.
Wolfe, who was touched for five hits in the first 2 1/3 innings, then settled down retiring 13 straight Falcon batters. Meanwhile, Bailey tallied a 1-out double in the bottom of the sixth before Avii traded places with her moments later. Avii then stole third and scored on an ensuing error to complete the scoring.
The Pack will continue the tournament later Saturday afternoon facing St. Mary's (Texas) at 4:30 p.m. (PST).
