Pack men fall 84-75

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com – Feb. 8, 2014) – With reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Julian Caldwell (Jr., Ontario, Calif.) on the bench in foul-trouble, the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves gave up a 13-0 run as the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions went on to an 84-75 win in the second annual Downtown Classic, Saturday night here in the City Auditorium.

The Mountain Lions received an impressive 38 points from Derek White and improved to 14-6 overall and to 11-5 in RMAC play as they completed the season-sweep of the Pack, who lost for just the third time in 10 road games this season.

Now 11-9 overall and 9-7 in RMAC play, the ThunderWolves currently sit in sixth place in the RMAC standings with six games to go in the regular season.

UCCS led 43-36 at the half before a 9-2 ThunderWolf run tied the game early in the second half.

The Pack then built a 58-51 lead before the Mountain Lions clawed their way back to within four (60-56) when Caldwell was called for charging, his fourth personal foul, with 10:32 left.

The Mountain Lions then went on their big run and went on to claim the win.

Caldwell led the Pack with 20 points.  He also had nine rebounds and was 8-for-11 from the field.  Nate Tigner (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas) (17 points), Matt Rosenbaum (Sr., Sidney, Neb.) (15) and Wendell Lee (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) (13) were also in double-figures for CSU-Pueblo, which committed just 10 turnovers.

CSU-Pueblo will now return home to Massari Arena to play four of the next six, starting Friday (Feb. 14) against Fort Lewis.  Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
