COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Mountain Lion Stadium) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team picked up its season high third straight win Sunday with a 1-0 victory at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
CSU-Pueblo's Matt Marchena (Jr., Forward, Littleton, Colo.) kicked his ninth goal of the season in the 81st minute after swift ball movement inside the 30 yardline by Sam Glawe (Jr., Defender, Allen, Tex.) and Cezar Plascencia (R-Sr., Midfielder, Anchorage, Alaska) allowed for a trailing Marchena to connect with the left side of the net.
Marchena has recorded at least one goal in the final three games of the season, all on the road, including five of his last six games with at least one point.
Playing to a scoreless tie through halftime, the Pack went into the break trailing 10-5 in shots, with UCCS holding a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
Pack goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO) had another solid outing, making 14 saves on twenty-three Mountain Lion shots. Haseltine was successful in facing a penalty kick in the second half, keeping the momentum with the ThunderWolves.
CSU-Pueblo, although being outshot in the game 23-10, was selective in their shot selection, managing six shots on goal. Marchena and Jack Gonzales (R-Jr., Defender, Centennial, Colo.) led the way with three shots apiece.
CSU-Pueblo finishes the season with an overall record of 7-11, and 6-8 in conference play.
