PUEBLO, Colo. (Gonzales Soccer Complex) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team dropped a heart-breaker Wednesday, falling to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions, 2-1 in overtime at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Complex.
CSU-Pueblo scored first in the 14th minute. Zach Davis (R-Fr., Defender, Tucson, Ariz.) received a perfectly passed ball from Mountan Mitchell (R-Jr., Midfielder, Kailua, Hawai'i) inside the box, who connected with the center of the goal. It is the third goal of the season for Davis.
The ThunderWolves held an 8-5 shot advantage after the first half. They also held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks in the period.
UCCS would get on the board just minutes into the second half when in the 53rd minute, a lapse in the Pack defense allowed for a ball to get on the right side of the box, firing a shot across the net that managed to get past the diving goalkeeper.
After an energized first half for the Pack, the momentum would shift to the Mountain Lions in the second half as they outshot CSU-Pueblo 11-5 in the second half and overtime period.
Goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO) made three saves for the Pack.
The Mountain Lions held possession for most of the extra period, booting two shots including the game winner in the 97th minute.
Jonny Sawyer (Sr., Forward, Aurora, Colo.) paced the ThunderWolves attack with four shots, one on goal.
CSU-Pueblo (2-9, 1-6 RMAC) will remain at home Friday when they welcome Colorado Christian University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Complex.
