CSU-Pueblo cruises to 3-0 win against Colorado Christian

PUEBLO, Colo. (Gonzales Soccer Complex) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian University, 3-0 Friday at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Complex.

Despite temperatures in the 40s at game time, CSU-Pueblo got out to a fast start and quickly set the pace of the game at a high level against the Cougars.

Connor Marth (Fr., Defender, Tulsa, Okla.) had a big game for the ThunderWolves as he gathered his first collegiate goal and assist in the game.

Marth was active defensively throughout the game and it paid dividends when he intercepted a ball at midfield and dribbled down from the center of the field, to the right side of the box, striking a one-timer to the far-side of the goal, giving the Pack the 1-0 lead just six minutes into the first half.

The ThunderWolves' lead remained 1-0 through the end of the first half, holding an 9-5 advantage in shots in the period.

The ThunderWolves began the second half with the same energy as they started the game.

Earning a corner kick just one minute into the second period, CSU-Pueblo's Jonny Sawyer (Sr., Forward, Aurora, Colo.) took the corner and delivered the ball perfectly to the center of the net, allowing Jack Gonzales (R-Jr., Defender, Centennial, Colo.) to fire a shot through two Cougar defenders, to the right side of goal, increasing the Pack lead, 2-0. The goal is the third of the season for Gonzales, putting him tied for the team lead.

Minutes later, Marth again found himself with possession of the ball at midfield, kicking a ball from the 40 yard line to Jon-Michael Krasovic (Sr., Defender, Pueblo, Colo.) who received the ball inside the box, firing past a diving Cougar goalkeeper. It is the first goal this season for Krasovic.

The ThunderWolves offense mainatined the intensity deep into the second half, finishing the game outshooting the Cougars, 20-9.

The Pack finished with a season high twelve corner kicks to the Cougars' two.

CSU-Pueblo (3-9, 2-6 RMAC) next will travel to Durango, Colo. Friday to play against Fort Lewis College, kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Dirks Field.
