ThunderWolves fall to nationally-ranked opponent

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 31, 2014) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves wrestling team was within striking distance with three matches to go in a dual vs. the fifth-ranked University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, falling 32-12.

The ThunderWolves were up 6-3, winning two of the first three matches, but that was before they faced the Bronchos' three straight nationally No. 1 ranked wrestlers from the 149, 157 and 165 classes respectively.

After pulling within 5 points at 12-17, following a pin by Eric Hughes (Jr. Bollvar, Mo.) at the 141 weight class vs. Dustin Reed, the ThunderWolves went on to lose the final three matches to lose 32-12 on Friday night.

Although the Bronchos ran away late, Ray Hall (Sr. Oak Park, Mo.) nearly defeated the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 165-pound class, Chris Watson, eventually falling in the second sudden victory period, 4-2.

Trevor Grant (Sr. Winnemucca, Nev.) kept his undefeated dual streak alive after defeating Zach Aylor with a 6-4 decision to open the dual.

The Pack picked up its second match win on the night when Riley Argyle (Jr. Jerome, Idaho) defeated Garrett Henshaw by a 2-0 decision in the 197-weight class.

With the defeat, the ThunderWolves end their home season, but will play at Western State on Feb. 7.
