Quality wins do in ThunderWolves

ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 16, 2014) - Despite splitting the matches Thursday night in an RMAC dual with Adams State, suffering pins were the difference as the ThunderWolves lost 26-19 to the Grizzlies.

Both the ThunderWolves and Grizzlies won five matches apiece, each also earning a win via forfeit because of injuries (CSU-Pueblo had to surrender the 125-pound match because of an injury suffered by starting 125-pounder Alex Baca Wednesday night).  But three of the Pack's four on-mat wins came via decision while Adams State came away with two pins and a technical fall to gain a seven point advantage.

CSU-Pueblo jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the dual, starting the match at 184 pounds and dominating the high weights.  But the bout quickly turned to an 18-9 Adams State advantage after they got six points for the 125-pound forfeit and took the 133- and 141-pound match with pins.

By the time the smoke had cleared, Adams State had rattled off five straight wins, going up 26-9 and clinching the match with two bouts remaining.

In the final bout of the night, 174-pounder Trevor Grant (Sr., Winnemucca, Nev.) provided the Pack's bright spot by winning his sixth dual match of the season in as many tries, earning a technical fall of Mark Mabry by a 9-1 decision.

CSU-Pueblo will next hit the mat Wednesday night when it hosts Colorado School of Mines at Massari Arena.
