PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 20, 2013) - After a slow start caused the CSU-Pueblo softball team to lose 5-3 against Regis in game one, an impressive offense performance helped the Pack rebound 10-2 in the night cap of the series.
Defensively, the Pack struggled in game one, giving up four errors to help spearhead an attack that produced four runs in the fourth inning.
Dora Hernandez (Fr., Benton City, Wash.) helped the Pack answer in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single through the left side that scored Sidney Bailey (So., Pueblo, Colo.).
The Rangers would add an additional in the seventh on a double by Rachel Illias. The double scored Shannon Massine to increase the lead to 5-1 coming into the last half inning of the game.
The Pack pressured the Rangers in the bottom half as they were able to load the bases with only one out. Bailey scored Kelsey Wager (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) on a sacrifice fly to left field drawing the Pack closer with a score of 5-2.
Hernandez would drive in another run in the next at-bat to put the ThunderWolves within striking distance with two men on and a swing away from winning on a walk off.
Rangers pitcher, Nicole Hull, would work out of the jam with a strike out to secure game one of the series.
Game two was a different story as the Pack exploded with their bats and a solid pitching performance from Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.).
Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) belted her 13th home run of the year in the bottom of the third on a two-run shot that scored Bailey.
The Pack continued their offensive onslaught with two four-run innings to cap the game and enforce the mercy rule. Brittany Styger's (So., Kent, Wash.) two-run single in the sixth helped the Pack secure the sixth inning victory.
Styger was impressive at the plate finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Pack.
The Pack wrap up their final home games of the season Sunday as they say goodbye to six seniors: Reagan Best (Sr., Greeley, Colo.), Bosio, Holly Hansing (Sr., Filer, Idaho), McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.), Carlie Lucas (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif.) and Samantha Rios (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.).
Senior day is scheduled to commence before the start of game one, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
