Pack loses in 11-inning marathon to Mavs, defeats Cougars in RMAC pod play

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 14, 2013) - An 11-inning marathon against Colorado Mesa highlighted the day for the CSU-Pueblo softball team during Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod play. The Pack fell in dramatic fashion to the Mavericks 6-5 before picking up a 5-1 win against Colorado Christian to complete the day.

The 11-inning marathon saw the Pack jump out in front early by plating four runs in the first inning. Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) singled up the middle to bring home Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Sidney Bailey (So., Pueblo, Colo.), while adding to her conference leading mark in RBIs with 48.

Lacey Chesser (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.) would also add a two-RBI single in the first as she brought around McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and Bosio.

The Mavericks would answer in the bottom half of the inning as they cut the lead to 4-3 with a fielder choice RBI by Rachel Boothe. Megan Brown would also add a single down the rightfield line to bring around two runners in the inning.

After scoring a run in the sixth inning on an error, the Mavericks would have enough ammunition to bring the game to extra innings.

It looked as if the Pack would take the game in the top of the 10th inning as Chesser added an RBI single to bring home Joseph. Chesser would finish the game going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Mavericks would respond by a sacrifice fly by Makayla Kovack to knot the game even at 5-5.

The game-winning run would be score in the next inning on a sacrifice fly by Tawnee Woosley that brought home Taylor Gross.

In game two of pod play the Pack would get redemption as they defeated the Cougars 5-1. Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.) got the victory in the game to improve her record to 12-5.

The Pack returns home to play their final home series of the season against Regis. The doubleheader starts Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
