GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 13, 2013) - The CSU-Pueblo softball team split it's two games in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod play defeating Colorado Christian 5-2, before losing in dramatic fashion to Colorado Mesa 5-4 on a walkoff home run.
The Pack got off to an early lead against the Mavericks, scoring in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and Carlie Lucas (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif.).
The Mavericks would tie the score in the bottom half of the first inning with a two-run home run by Jessica Severinsen.
After giving up two more runs in the second and fourth inning the Pack would have to battle back in the seventh inning to even the score. They were up to the task as they rattled back-to-back singles by Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and Sidney Bailey (So., Pueblo, Colo.). Snyder and Bailey would come around to score and tie the game on an error and single by Joseph.
The Mavericks would erase any chance for a complete comeback as Severinsen would add her second home run of the game, a walkoff.
In the earlier game of the pod, the Pack plated five runs as they went on to defeat Colorado Christian. Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) got the complete-game win as she improved her record to 11-4.
The Pack will again play Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa to complete conference pod play. First pitch is at 10 a.m. against the Mavericks.
