Pack earns split against Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 30, 2013) - Looking to avenge two losses to rival Adams State Friday, the CSU-Pueblo softball team could only salvage a split Saturday. Winning comfortably in game one, 6-1, before falling in extra innings, 4-3, in game two.

The Pack jumped out to an early in the first game, scoring four runs in the second inning. The explosive inning began when Carlie Lucas (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif.) reached on an error by the second basemen that allowed Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) to score from third base.

Patience at the plate paid off when Lacey Chesser (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.) earned a walk to score Carlee Chain (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.). An error by the left fielder in the very next left fielder allowed Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) to reach and McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) to score.

Joseph continued her solid offensive game by driving in two other runs in both the third and seventh inning. Joseph finished the game going 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored.

Snyder also finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

Game two was more tightly contested as the Grizzlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Erica Haugum hit a double down the right field line.

After back-to-back singles by Snyder and Sidney Bailey (So., Pueblo, Colo.) the Pack evened the score in the third inning with a single down the left field line by Bosio. The inning would end on a groundout to the pitcher that resulted in a double play.

Bosio would give the Pack the lead in the fifth inning when she hit her ninth home run of the year over the left center field wall.

The Grizzlies would respond in the seventh inning with an RBI by Brittani Richins that evened the score and took the game to extra innings.

The teams would trade outs for the next two innings before reaching the bottom half of the ninth inning. The Grizzlies would score the final blow as Katelyn Lovato hit a walk-off single down the left field line that would score Casey Chaney.

The Pack returns home after two series on the road to play New Mexico Highlands. The first game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
