SILVER CITY, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - Mar. 23, 2013) - Behind a high-powered offense that put together 29 runs in two games, the CSU-Pueblo softball team was able to defeat the Western New Mexico Mustangs 14-2 and 15-1.
In game one the Pack got things going right away, scoring with a single by Dora Hernandez (Fr., Benton City, Wash.) in the first inning and a sacrifice bunt by Lacey Chesser (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.).
The scoring continued in the fourth inning with back-to-back solo home runs by Hernandez and McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) to extend the lead to 4-0.
After a bases loaded walk scored a run in the fifth inning, Chesser would hit a double to center field that would score both Brittany Styger (So., Kent, Wash.) and Kelsey Wager (So., Pueblo West, Colo.).
To go along with the strong offensive performance, Justine Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) kept the Mustangs at bay all afternoon, allowing only four hits while striking out four batters. The defense was just as good as committed zero errors while forcing a key double play in the fourth.
Bosio would add tie the career home run mark for the Pack in the seventh inning with a grand slam that all but ended the hopes for a comeback by the Mustangs.
The offense continued in game two as the Pack executed key hits to score runners all throughout the game.
After loading the bases in the second inning, Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) would hit a triple to left center to clear the bases and help the Pack get an early 3-0 lead.
The damage would continue for the Mustangs in the fourth inning as singles by Chesser and Snyder would score runners. Bosio would also hit her 33rd career home run to surpass Niki Toussaint on the all-time list.
The fifth inning featured two, two-RBI doubles and another one RBI double to force the Mustangs into the mercy rule.
The Pack will look to win their ninth and tenth straight games Sunday when they finish up a weekend series against the Mustangs. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11 a.m.
