SAN ANGELO, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 17, 2013) - The Pack kicked off the final game of the George McCorkle Classic with a bang. Scoring early and often the team ousted fourth-ranked Angelo State in five innings 10-1.
Alexa Snyder (So., Pueblo, Colo.) again was the catlyst of the outburst, after walking in her first at-bat, Snyder stole second to set up Samantha Rios (Sr., Fullerton, Calif.). Rios responded with a double to left field to score the first run. Another single and a walk by pitcher Mary Kate McKay would crete a log jam on the bases that would fall in the Pack's favor.
McKay helped the ThunderWolves' cause by walking two batters and hitting another to score runs. McKenzie Joseph (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) would drive in another run with her RBI single to left field.
Rios would continue her hot start to the season in the second inning with a solo blast to right field, putting the Pack up 6-0.
The onslaught would continue in the third inning with an RBI double by Lacey Chesser (Jr., Oxnard, Calif.) to score Carlie Lucas (Sr., Granada Hills, Calif.). Rios would drive in Chesser a batter later on a fielder's choice. An RBI single by Justin Bosio (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) would cap the scoring in the third.
An errant throw in the fourth on a stolen base attempt by Snyder, scoring Rios would put the Pack up 10-0.
Meanwhile while the offense was clicking, pitcher Kelli Henry (So., Monument, Colo.) was dealing. In her second start of the season Henry was every bit dominant as she was in her first, allowing only one run on two hits, for no earned runs.
The Pack opens up their home slate next Saturday when they face Chadron State. First pitch is scheduled for noon in the double-header.
