DENVER, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 25, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo continued to establish itself as the top women's golf program in the RMAC Tuesday, winning the second RMAC tournament of the season and claiming its third straight RMAC tournament win.
CSU-Pueblo equaled its team-record two-round score of 617, set just one week ago, in winning the Regis Invitational at the Fox Hollow Golf Course in Denver. After putting up a school-record single round score of 304 Monday (16-over-par), it shot a 313 Tuesday to finish 41-over-par for the tournament. It helped the Pack to maintain a slim lead over Western New Mexico, which was on the ThunderWolves' heels all tournament long, finishing three strokes behind at 620.
Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CNMI) finished second in the 48-member field, shooting a 6-over-par 150 over two rounds, matching a school record set last weekend by teammates Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) and Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.).
The win keeps CSU-Pueblo on its torrid pace of wins in RMAC tournaments, as it has now won three straight dating back to last season's spring championship. It is one tournament win away from matching the RMAC record of four straight tournament wins, set twice by Western New Mexico (during the 2010-11 season and the 2007-08 season).
CSU-Pueblo will try for its fourth straight RMAC win in two weeks at the third RMAC tournament of the season, the Mustang Intercollegiate, in Silver City, N.M.
