ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 16, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo set a school record and led the field after one round Sunday at the Grizzly Invitational, the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament of the season.
The ThunderWolves obliterated its school record individual round team score by 11 strokes Sunday, shooting a team 307. Last weekend, the team matched its school record of 318 during the first round of the West Texas A&M Stampede.
Also for the first time in school history, four ThunderWolves finished a round with sub-80 scores, led by Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.). The Pack junior shot a 3-over-par 75, good enough for a first-place tie in the tournament and just two shots away from the freshly-minted school record of 73 set a week ago by teammate Leina Kim (Saipan, CNMI).
Domi DiNallo (Jr., Elephant Butte, N.M.) turned in a 4-over-par 76, Julie Sanchez (So., Pueblo, Colo.) a 5-over-par 77 and Kim a 7-over-par 79.
The solid team performance put the Pack eight strokes above Western New Mexico and nine ahead of Colorado Mesa. Every other squad finished 15 or more strokes behind the ThunderWolves in the first round.
The Grizzly Invitational will conclude Monday as the Pack seeks just its second team title in an RMAC tournament.
