CANYON, Texas (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 11, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo lost five strokes and fell to sixth place as the West Texas A&M Stampede concluded Tuesday.
After the first-round success of Leina Kim (RFr., Saipan, CMNI), who was tied for first after one round, she and the ThunderWolves lost strokes as it fell from contention. Kim ended up finishing in 12th place after shooting an 11-over-par 83 in the second round.
Joining her in 12th place was Michaela Breit (Jr., Greeley, Colo.), who cut four strokes from her first-round total of an 8-over-par 80 to shoot a 4-over-par 76 in the second round. Her second-round 76 was the sixth-lowest score in the 75-member field.
Though the Pack did not emerge victorious at this tournament, CSU-Pueblo's 6th place finish in the 14-team tournament was very encouraging, as it came against some of the region's and nation's top teams. Unlike last year, CSU-Pueblo is in a region with Texas-area teams, which historically better in national play than the Pack's regional foes last season, which were mostly Minnesota-area squads.
The ThunderWolves also finished ahead of one of the top teams in the RMAC, Colorado Mesa, which finished 11th in this tournament. Other regional foes, Regis and Colorado Christian, were in 13th and 14th place, respectively.
CSU-Pueblo will next hit the links on Sunday when it travels to Alamosa for the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament of the season at the Cattails Golf Course.
