Pack finishes regular season in second place in RMAC standings.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 22, 2012) - Needing a doubleheader sweep Sunday to give itself a shot at its first RMAC Regular Season Championship in program history, CSU-Pueblo could only muster a split as it missed out on a championship.
Entering the day a half-game behind Colorado School of Mines in the standings and among a remarkable seven teams that entered the final day of the regular season with a shot to win the conference championship, CSU-Pueblo had the goal of claiming a sweep of Western New Mexico and hoping for a Mines loss.
Those hopes were dashed when the ThunderWolves fell 7-3 in opening game Sunday while Mines won its opener 7-2 over Colorado Mesa. It would later wrap up second place in the conference with a 3-2 win in the late game.
CSU-Pueblo does, however, finish the regular season in second place for the first time since 2006 and just the third time in program history. The ThunderWolves will travel to Golden, Colo. for the second straight season for the RMAC Tournament, where it will face defending RMAC Tournament champion, Regis, in the opening game of the RMAC tournament.
