ThunderWolves swept at Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 26, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo fell to its sixth straight loss and a series sweep to Colorado Mesa Sunday after losing 3-0 and 9-6.

The ThunderWolves had trouble connecting with the ball in the opening game Sunday, mustering just four hits as it was shut out 3-0.  Mesa's Ashley Pulido struck out four over seven innings while the ThunderWolves only put up four singles.

It undid a reasonably strong performance in the circle by Marissa Reyes (So., Santa Paula, Calif.), who gave up just seven hits and struck out six while being saddled with the loss, her first of the season.

The Pack bats fared much better in the late game, but a big opening inning by Mesa limited the effectiveness of any Pack offense.

Colorado Mesa plated five runs in the first inning as CSU-Pueblo wouldn't get any closer than two runs away from the Mavericks.  Despite a couple multi-hit performances, including a 2-for-4 game from Ariel Lopez (Fr., Fontana, Calif.), who connected on her second home run of the weekend, the ThunderWolves couldn't stop a Colorado Mesa squad that improved to 6-2 on the season while CSU-Pueblo dropped to 2-6.

CSU-Pueblo's road gets no easier as it returns home next weekend to host Colorado School of Mines, the preseason pick to win the RMAC, for a four-game series at the Rawlings Softball Complex.
