Pack goes 0-for in Alaska trip

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 10, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo hung strong with a solid Alaska-Anchorage squad Saturday, but couldn't close the deal late, falling 85-75 to the Seawolves in its closing game at the Alaska-Anchorage AT&T Jamboree.

The ThunderWolves only managed to lead for a grand total of 45 seconds Saturday, but stayed close throughout most of the game with the Seawolves, which qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament last season and advanced to the round-of-32.

After taking a jab to the kidneys in the first half, giving up a 10-3 run and going down 22-10 just 10 minutes into the game, the ThunderWolves clawed its way back into the game.

Thanks to a string of threes late in the half by three different players, CSU-Pueblo put together a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 33-31 as halftime approached.

But the encouraging run didn't last long as Anchorage teed off to start the second half.  Though neither team went on crippling runs, the Seawolves slowly opened up its lead, and eight minutes into the half, it was again up by 12 points.

The ThunderWolves would again battle back, this time cutting the lead to five, 73-68, with 2:45 remaining.  But Anchorage did what good teams do late in games, and that is complete its free throw attempts.  The Seawolves were 11-for-12 on free throw attempts inside the final 2:45, sealing its win and spoiling the Pack's upset attempt.

The ThunderWolves were led by Arden Dennis (Sr., Denver, Colo.), who collected 21 points to go along with his team-high eight rebounds.  Nate Tigner (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) turned in seven assists, a personal best, as well.

CSU-Pueblo now returns home for its home opener at the Al Kaly Shriners Classic, which begins Friday, Nov. 16 at Massari Arena.
